Sweet Genovese’ is the classic Italian basil, prized for its rich, sweet aroma and smooth, aromatic leaves. This variety produces large, bright green leaves with an intense, slightly spicy clove-like flavor, making it the preferred choice for authentic pesto and Mediterranean dishes. Plants are vigorous, bushy, and fast-growing, reaching around 45–60 cm (18–24 in) in height.
Uses:
Ideal for fresh use in salads, pastas, and sauces. Leaves can also be dried or frozen for later use. Excellent companion plant for tomatoes and peppers.
Plant Care🪴
☀️Sunlight:
Basil needs plenty of light, but in Qatar’s intense sun, partial shade during midday (11 a.m.–3 p.m.) helps prevent leaf scorch.
🌱Soil:
Use a light, well-draining potting mix — sandy loam or compost-enriched soil works best.
💧Watering:
Water regularly but moderately — keep the soil evenly moist, not soggy.
✂️Pruning & Harvesting:
Pinch off the growing tips regularly to encourage bushy growth.
Remove flower buds as they appear — flowering reduces leaf flavor.
Harvest young leaves frequently for the best taste.
