Passion Fruit Plant-Passiflora edulis (Fruit Plant)

The passion fruit plant is a fast-growing, evergreen vine known for its exotic, fragrant flowers and delicious, nutrient-rich fruit. The plant can climb rapidly using its tendrils and can reach over 15–20 feet (4.5–6 meters) in a single growing season. The flowers are typically white and purple, highly ornamental, and are followed by round or oval fruits. The fruit’s outer skin can be purple or yellow, and the inside contains aromatic orange pulp filled with black seeds.

Plant Care🪴

☀️ Light: Provide 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. In extremely hot Qatar summers, protect the plant from harsh afternoon sun.

💧 Watering: Water deeply when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil consistently moist during flowering and fruiting, but never waterlogged.

🌱 Soil: Prefers fertile, slightly acidic, well-draining soil. Mix garden soil with compost, coco peat, and perlite or sand.

🌿 Support: Passion fruit is a vigorous climbing vine. Provide a sturdy trellis, fence, arch, or pergola.

🌾 Fertilizing: Feed every 4–6 weeks during active growth. Use compost and a fertilizer containing enough potassium to support flowering and fruit development. Avoid excessive nitrogen, as it can produce more leaves and fewer fruits.

✂️ Pruning: Prune after harvesting or before the growing season. Remove dead, damaged, tangled, and unproductive branches, but avoid heavy pruning during flowering.

🌼 Pollination: Bees are important for fruit formation. If flowers drop without producing fruit, transfer pollen between flowers gently using a small, soft brush.

🍈 Harvesting: Fruit is ready when its skin develops its mature colour and it naturally drops from the vine. Slightly wrinkled fruit is usually sweeter and more aromatic.
