Plumeria, commonly known as Frangipani, is a tropical and subtropical flowering plant known for its beautiful and fragrant flowers. It’s often associated with the Hawaiian lei and is a favorite in gardens due to its stunning appearance and intoxicating scent.
Plumeria has large, leathery, dark green leaves that are usually arranged alternately along the branches. The leaves are elongated and can be up to 20 inches long, providing a lush, tropical look.
The plant produces clusters of large, five-petaled flowers that come in a variety of colors, including white, yellow, pink, red, and multi-colored. The flowers are highly fragrant, often with a sweet, jasmine-like scent, and bloom from spring to fall. With its striking flowers and lush foliage, Plumeria is a standout plant in any garden. Its tree-like form and wide canopy make it an excellent choice for providing shade and visual interest.
-
الضوء: Plumeria thrives in full sun. It needs at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day to bloom profusely and maintain healthy growth. Inadequate light can result in fewer flowers and leggy growth.
-
الري: Water Plumeria regularly during the growing season (spring to fall), allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot. During the winter dormancy period, reduce watering significantly, as the plant requires very little moisture when not actively growing.
-
الإخصاب: Feed the plant with a high-phosphorus fertilizer (often labeled as “bloom booster”) during the growing season to encourage flowering. Apply a balanced fertilizer every 2-3 weeks.
-
التقليم: Prune Plumeria in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove dead or damaged branches and shape the plant to encourage a strong structure and more blooms. Pruning also helps maintain a manageable size.
