Anthurium make wonderful houseplants. This stunning variety has superb heart-shaped leaves and gorgeous – and uniquely – black flowers which are very long-lasting.
Anthuriums are native to South America and the Caribbean. They can be epiphytic and are often found growing on trees in highly humid environments.
The Anthurium genus is renowned for its most commonly seen varieties with colourful, long-lasting blooms which are actually called ‘spathes’. The colourful spathes can last as long as 6 weeks before dying back. However, rarer forms of Anthurium are sought-after for their impressive leaves rather than their spathes.
Light
Anthuriums thrive in locations with moderate to bright, indirect light conditions, however, they have been known to adapt well to lower light levels.
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch to dry between waterings for optimal health.
Feed
Liquid fertiliser can be applied during the growing season, once a month or so should be sufficient.
Humidity
This plant enjoys humidity. Place in a bathroom and/or mist regularly with water. Remove dust from the leaves with a damp cloth to improve photosynthesis.
