A large leafy winner in the Dieffenbachia family, this dumb cane is alive with colour. Big broad waxy leaves are electrified with bright white and yellow striping, giving this proud plant a point of difference from its cousins.
The diffused variegation on its long arching leaves is framed in a lush green veining and perimeter, making the plant look almost ornamental, ideal for exotic displays in bright spaces.
Light
Dieffenbachia enjoy bright, indirect light but can tolerate light shade. Lower light levels reduce the rate of growth and dull leaf variegation. Direct sunlight will scorch the leaves.
Watering
Water when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Be careful not to overwater however; waterlogged roots can lead to rot or suffocate the plant.
Temperature
The Dumb Cane prefers warm to high temperatures, ideally between 18-24°C, but can cope with as low as 10°C for short periods. Avoid draughts.
Humidity
Normal to increased humidity levels work best for this plant. Dieffenbachia will relish the occasional misting and the use of a pebble tray.
Feed
Apply a weak dose of a fertiliser about once a month during the growing season.
Height & Growth Rate
The Dumb Cane is a moderately fast-growing plant which can reach an ultimate height of approximately 1-1.2 metres.
Air Purifying
This plant filters airborne toxins such as benzene and formaldehyde, and is part of our clean air plant collection.
blozem hints
🍀Dulling it down! If you notice the variegation start to fade, move to a brighter position. The brighter the light the brighter the white.
🍀Leaf got you down! Noticed your upright plant seems a bit flat? Giving it a little drink will make it perk right back up.
🍀Growing old with grace! Lower leaf loss is a natural aging process with this plant. If you still have new growth, then you have nothing to worry about.
