Cacti can survive for quite a long time without water. Because there are few stomata in a cactus, the water hardly evaporates. Also, most cacti can siphon their own weight in water. With low winter temperatures, a cactus can easily go three months without water.
Some cacti may shrink a bit. At low temperatures, however, it is recommended to let the soil dry out a bit. Place your cactus in full sun or above a heater, then it is advisable to water the cactus once a month.
In summer you should let the soil dry out between watering. So that occurs spoilage from the roots. More water can stimulate growth, but when in doubt, it’s best to wait to water. Most cacti die because they get too much water.
The cacti will then die off in the roots from the bottom up. This only becomes visible much later. In the summer, a cactus will grow better if you water one larger amount per round. Be careful, however: be careful, the roots must not remain in the water.
When the flowers are buttoning up you can start giving more water.
