Philodendron micans – Velvet Leaf Philodendron

With trailing vines dripping in luxuriously velvety foliage,Philodendron micans is an absolute showstopper.

Renowned for its heart-shaped leaves boasting a velvety texture, Micans flaunts a captivating iridescence, blending shades of green, bronze, and deep purple. Each leaf unfurls in a mesmerising display, transitioning from intense red-purple to lush green, creating an eye-catching gradient.

Soft to the touch and shimmering in sunlight, the leaves exude a luxurious, suede-like allure. Whether cascading from a hanging planter or perched elegantly on a tabletop, the Philodendron micans adds a touch of sophistication to any space.

The Velvet Leaf Plant is versatile. Best in medium light but can tolerate bright light and some degree of shade. Avoid direct sunlight however, as this may scorch the plant.

Keep the soil moist at all times. Allow the top of the soil to dry-out slightly before re-watering. Will tolerate some degree of drought better than having its roots too wet.

Micans will do fine in normal home humidity, but thrives in more humid environments. Consider giving your Philodendron an occasional misting for best results.

Apply a weak solution of liquid fertiliser two or three times during the growing season.

The Velvet Leaf Philodendron is a fast-growing, vigorous climber which typically reaches an ultimate height of anything up to 4 metres. Trim as required.

Considered toxic to pets if ingested. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs or opt for pet-friendly alternatives if you have furry companions

🌿You grow, girl! Increase the bushiness of this plant by pinching out after a leaf node on single stems. This will promote off shoots and more branches, meaning more leaves.

🌿Listen to the leaves! This plant will tell you when it is receiving too much or too little water. Too much and the leaves will yellow and drop, too little and they will brown and shrivel.

🌿Location, Location, Location! These plants will thrive in almost all levels of humidity, however placing them in high humidity environments will encourage larger leaves.
