Philodendron scandens is known as the Sweetheart Plant, or Heart-Leaf, due to the beautiful leaf shape. This ‘Brasil’ variety has stunning golden-yellow variegated leaves. It’s obvious association with love makes it a thoughtful gift for weddings, anniversaries or just because.
The sweetheart Plant is a vining Philodendron and can grow to astonishing lengths, either supported as a climber or left trailing from a hanging basket or shelf. A row of trailing Philodendron scandens makes a fantastic living, green curtain. Mature plants may produce spathes of green-white flowers. This options is grown up a moss pole for support.
Light
The Sweetheart Plant is versatile. Best in medium light but can tolerate bright light and some degree of shade. Avoid direct sunlight however, as this may scorch the plant.
Watering
Keep the soil moist at all times. Allow the top of the soil to dry-out slightly before re-watering. Will tolerate some degree of drought better than having its roots too wet.
Humidity
The Sweetheart Plant will do fine in normal home humidity, but thrives in more humid environments. Consider giving your Philodendron Brasil an occasional misting for best results.
Feed
Liquid fertiliser can be applied during the growing season, once a month or so should be sufficient.
Height & Growth Rate
The Sweetheart Plant is a fast-growing, vigorous climber which typically reaches an ultimate height of anything up to 4 metres. Trim as required.
Toxicity
Philodendron scandens is pet-toxic — not pet-friendly.
Air Purifying
Philodendron Brasil filters airborne toxins such as such as trichloroethylene and benzene from the atmosphere and is part of our clean air plant collection.
Blozem Hints🪴
🌿Reach for the sky! As the plant grows, it may get too long for the current moss pole. Insert a new pole in the hole at the top of the old one and use moss pole pins to secure the new growth into position.
🌿You grow, girl! Increase the bushiness of this plant by pinching out after a leaf node on single stems. This will promote off shoots and more branches, meaning more leaves.
