Gardenia is a popular genus of flowering plants known for their fragrant, white or creamy blooms and glossy, dark green leaves. Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands, gardenias are commonly grown as ornamental shrubs or small trees in gardens and landscapes.
Here are some key characteristics of Gardenia outdoor plants:
- Flowers: Gardenias are known for their fragrant, white to creamy flowers, which have a waxy texture. The flowers often appear in late spring to early summer, though some varieties may bloom sporadically throughout the year.
- Leaves: The plants have leathery, dark green, glossy leaves that provide a beautiful contrast to the white flowers. They are evergreen, keeping their foliage year-round in warmer climates.
