Musa Acuminata is a species of banana. Most of the modern edible dessert bananas belong to this species. Musa is a genus which contains both bananas and plantains. Varieties have been developed to produce the edible fruit we know as bananas. Starchier varieties used for cooking are called plantains. Far more varieties are cultivated as architectural plants that may develop inedible fruits. Although they are tender plants, some species are hardy enough to leave outside over winter in temperate climates, especially in the milder regions which makes them worth experimenting with in the garden.
Banana trees are easy to care for.
- Musa Acuminata performs well in presence of full sunlight. Water them moderately, apply them only after checking moist on topsoil. Apply thoroughly at summer and gradually reduce during winter or rainy season. The soil on which they are supposed to be planted must be well-drained, humus-rich. Ideally the temperature for their healthy growth must be around 20 – 27 degree Celsius. And in terms of feeding, use any fertilizer. Apply them once a month especially during the growing season.
